Why Summer Is A Great Time To Learn How To Drive

There’s never a bad time to book driving lessons, but summer presents a great opportunity to get behind the wheel for the first time when it is lighter for longer and the weather is good.

Firstly, the longer evenings and lighter mornings mean those who have to take their lessons before or after college or work can still benefit from driving in the daylight. During the winter, the short days mean they might only be able to drive when it is dark outside.

Driving when it is easier to see can help to build up confidence, so when they do have to have lessons in the dark, they already have plenty of experience behind them.

Another reason why summer is an ideal time to start driving is due to better weather conditions. Although there is always the risk it could pour it down in the UK at any time of the year, this is more likely to happen during the colder months.

Not only that but there’s also the risk of snow, ice, fog, wind and storms in winter, making it more difficult to stay in control of the vehicle, particularly for inexperienced drivers.

The winter sun is also lower in the sky, which can cause glare on the windscreen and affect vision. This can make it harder to see hazards in the road, and make new drivers even more nervous and unsure of themselves.

It could also be easier to secure blocks of lessons during the summer, as lots of people tend to go away at this time of the year, freeing up time for instructors, who are always in high demand. This means you can secure a regular slot at a good driving school without having to wait a long time for availability.
